A man in San Francisco, determined to commit suicide by cop, threatens to kill himself and police officers with a gun that he is carrying. Police officers brought in a crisis negotiation team who spent hours talking him down until he finally placed the gun on the ground and allowed himself to be taken to a mental hospital for evaluation. It turned out to be a replica gun.
Police in El Cajon were called about a man who was reportedly in mental distress and “acting strange”. Police were called on a “5150” call by the sister of a man who was reportedly having a mental break. Police officers did not bring in a crisis negotiation team to talk him down until he was ready to go with them. Instead, they shot and killed him, despite the fact that he was not even armed with a replica gun.
One of these men is not like the other. Can you spot the difference?
And once you’ve spotted the difference — can you guess which one got the crisis negotiation team called for him, and which one got shot?
The fact that you don’t even have to think about it is exactly the problem.

To repurpose the ditty from “Sesame Street”:
“One of these men is not like the other;
One of these men ain’t livin’ for long.
The cops will shoot the angry crazy Brother
By the time I finish this song.”

I would like to know what he was “pointing” at police in the most common image. Not trying to justify the shoot, just trying to see if there was ANY reasonable explaination besides what I’ve come to expect, sigh.
Tux, you might like a blog, The Field Negro. He’s got a lovely little piece on tRump screwing a small business man, plus always a very provocative take on some things. The comments are pretty rough, as he allows the racists and idiots to bloviate pretty freely, but it does provide an insight into the dark underside of the “konservative” side.

CP88, I can see the dark underside of the “konservative” side just by reading YouTube comments. Ugh.

And I want to see that damned video! I have tools where I can get a good look not only at that specific frame they stopped on, but the frames immediately before and afterwards, to get an idea what happened.

Now saying it was a silver vape device…OK, pointing a silver tube at an armed person, not a good idea, but until we see the video, I’m not calling it a death penalty offense either. The video will be hummed and hawed about until another shooting or two occurs (tomorrow?) and they can slip it out under the radar…or they’ll try to keep it hidden.

Dark skin – shoot first and ask questions later.
White skin – be calm, cool and collected, it’ll be OK.

Doesn’t hold true in Marksville, LA. 5 rounds into a 6 year-old, and the video is damning…they may not have “known” the child was in there, but they didn’t care.

That Marksville thing is something entirely different. What you had there was a corrupt town official putting out a hit on a critic using the town marshall, and the town marshall roped in other cops under bogus pretenses that the person being chased was a wanted criminal. It’s the sort of thing you thought didn’t happen anymore. But it did.

Depends on where you live/grew up…doesn’t surprise me one bit. Our Parish Sheriff protected the drugs traffic in the area. Not complaing about the original thesis, just noting we still have even more backwards areas.
