Ocean life is undergoing mass extinction events. This is disturbing because the oceans provide most of the free oxygen that we need to breathe. Mess up the ocean ecosystem and life on Earth will become rather vegetable for the next few eons.
2014 was the warmest year on record. But global warming is a myth [SMIRK!].
So the question is, what do we do? We can’t go back to a pre-industrial lifestyle. There’s too many of us, and the mass starvation would end up destroying all the resources needed for survival. The entire world becomes an environmental disaster like Haiti as every tree gets cut down for cooking and warmth and the topsoil washes into the rivers and seas. And unfortunately humans are like rats, they don’t die off entirely just because they’ve exceeded the carrying capacity of their environment, they reproduce whenever possible and the environment never gets a chance to recover.
Yet every opportunity to achieve a post-industrial society is thwarted either by lunatic greenies who oppose the energy solutions necessary for such a society (especially nuclear energy, where the current breed of reactors are much safer than the old military-style reactors currently in existence but the greenies won’t let us build them), or by lunatic righties who oppose the science needed to achieve such a society because it’s either against God, against established industries’ profits, or both.
I don’t have any advice, other than to point out that hunkering in a bunker with piles of ammo and gold is a loser’s choice. You can’t be awake 24/7 and you need air to survive, so sooner or later someone is going to smoke you out, and you can’t eat gold. The true survivors are going to be social. When others are trying to kill you, there is strength in numbers. An individual’s chances of survival are best when the other team members survive. Your chances decrease for every member you lose. So the real survivors are going to be experienced at putting the good of the whole above the good of the individual. The true survivors are going to be organized. They’re going to be accustomed to organizing events and will have already organized themselves to achieve all the tasks needed for survival.
In other words, if you want to survive what happens these next few decades, convert to the Mormon church, move to a small town in Utah, become a member of the Chamber of Commerce and personal friends with the local church elders, politicians, police officers, and National Guard leaders, and follow their dictates on how to prepare. Now, personally, that’s not a solution I can stomach. I don’t do magic undies, and I’m not much of a schmoozer. But that’s who’s going to survive.
I, for one, am glad that I’m not likely going to survive to bend my knee to my new Mormon overlords once they finish conquering the West Coast from the few savages that survive the cutoff of food and water…
