The latest? Judge Roy Moore. Yeah, that Judge Roy Moore, the one with the 10 Commandments statue, the one who ordered county clerks to disobey the U.S. Supreme Court? Dude obsessed with gay sex, even more than most gay people I know?
Yeah, that Roy Moore, who apparently abused his position as an assistant district attorney to get close to a 14 year old girl and, eventually, boff her.
Not the only underage girl he had inappropriate contact (snrk) with either. So, how are Republicans reacting to finding out that their guy is a pervert?
Alabama State Auditor Jim Zeigler, a Moore backer: “Even if you accept the Washington Post’s report as being completely true, it’s much ado about very little. ”
So, uhm, how many parents of 14 year old girls are okay with a 32 year old adult man hitting on her? Hello? Helloooo?!
So how’s this playing out with the base? I asked my local Trumpanzee, who is the father of a little girl, and he was, like, “where were the parents?” And I replied “Her mother was in a courtroom. Moore was a district attorney and offered to watch the girl while her mother was in court.”
At which point he blew a fuse, sputtering “That’s abuse of power! That’s just wrong! He ought to be flayed alive in the public square! And kept alive and revived and flayed some more for years and years and years!” Uhm, yeah. Judge Roy’s base doesn’t seem to agree that a grown man is supposed to be hitting on 14 year old girls…
But never fear, Judge Moore will appear on live television, in tears, saying how he’d been a bad awful man when he was young but then he’d accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Lord and Savior and had his sins Washed away in the Blood of the Lamb glory Hallelujah and was saved, saved I say, by the Blood of the Lamb. And the illiterate hicks and inbred cousin-fuckers of Alabama will elect him as their next senator, glory Hallelujah, AMEN.

Starting to look like the strategy is “Fake news!” at least until there’s enough evidence for a trial, in which case, the right wing media will switch over to, “She deserved it! Dressed like a slut/came on to him, etc.!”

I’m with Nan in expecting that the standard response amongst reich-wingers will be “Fake news! All these women are lying for political reasons. I’m more determined to vote for him now than ever!” The self-chosen ideological split in Amerikan society is so entrenched, such a part of so many peoples’ psychological identity, that facts don’t matter. Only faction does.
(And I say that as someone who’s as factional as anyone, having drastically rearranged my life due to politics. However, I AM willing to concede flaws on the part of my team members, such as Obama being feckless and Hillary being a trifle skeevy. I am willing to acknowledge imperfections in the players, even as they work for small steps toward better goals.)
It’s an all-or-nothing dynamic, where any member of the team cannot be rejected (especially the high-profile ones) because in the mind of the reich cultist, that would start a slippery slope where their entire edifice would crumble. It’s why people such as Trumplethinskin and Cheney/Bush before them, plus so many other authoritarian types, cannot admit ANY error. They feel like if they were wrong about ONE thing, they might be wrong about EVERYTHING. (Which they are.) It’s a rigid way of looking at the world: “We are perfect. 100%. If I think that we are anything less than perfect, then we’re totally shit. So I MUST keep screeching that we are 100% perfect.”
Twitler is a boob, but he has a feel for the psychology of con-able mooks whose soul-void is filled by sucking up to his cult of (antisocial) personality. He could shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue and it would not matter to cult members. They’re as likely as not to vote FOR a murderer just because it pisses off the people on the other team. To the fascist Reicht, what counts is not morality or making Amerikkka better. Spitting in the face of the Lefties they hate is the only important thing. They will happily destroy their country and vote for their own deaths, as long as they can think that they will witness the opponents dying before them.

I left in 1966 and it doesn’t sound like it’s gotten any better down there. Curious to see how this plays out. Bukko’s right, they’re rigid as hell and could crack in an instant. I keep hoping the GOP senators will become vertebrate but hasn’t happened yet, come mass murder and now pedophilia. All for tax cuts?
We already knew maybe 38-40% in the USA were potential Nazis. The Confederate battle flag is now a Nazi symbol, it was always treasonous. A religious, anti-science, medieval party of the stupid. Debased educational standards come home to roost.
We sort of know how this ends though, trump resigns to spend more time with his family. That Mueller is a cold MF, following the money and using the stupid kids to ensure cooperation, probably having incriminating emails and ‘wire tapps’ of all the criminal families, having read trump’s 1040 showing Russian shadow banks were his only source of loans and lots more. Hard to fight in court, better to make a deal.
This is good for the DEMs, in theory, and maybe for real if Virginia and other places reflect nationwide trump repugnance among non-racist voters. And a Democratic Socialist won too!
