If Donald Trump tweets condemning a news source as “fake”, then it’s real news.
If Donald Trump praises a news source, it’s fake news.
Because this is the future that Donald Trump wants:
There was once a saying, “never make enemies of someone who buys paper by the ton and ink by the barrel”. The question is whether that’s still viable in today’s day and age. My answer: we’re about to see.
Specifically: The newspapers, magazines, and news channels banned from Friday’s press gaggle are those who’ve reported the most information on Trump’s Russia ties. And they’ve only just begun. Trump just gave them a huge, huge credibility bump by punishing them for publishing about his ties to Russia.
When we see red-capped MAGAts swarming into newspaper and network offices smashing everything with axe handles while Homeland Security is outside making sure that nobody interferes, then we’ll know we’ve gone full Fourth Reich. Until then, I expect to see these journalists redoubling their efforts to take Trump down despite the Reich’s attempts to stop leaking — because when the government has declared war on you, what do you have left other than to go full 1st Amendment?
