Heh. Yah, probably. The only good news is that the bus passes a block away, so at least whoever locked his wheel to the bike rack had a way to get home, because he sure isn’t riding his bike home unless he happens to have unicycle pedals in his backpack .
You know, since the lock and wheel were left there, maybe the owner of the bike lost the lock key so that he is actually the one who removed the remainder of the bike and carried it home.
Thanks for the reminder. I ride my bike to work every day, and I often lock it like that. Granted, I’m parking it at a rack under the covered area where the ambulances pull in, with security guards monitoring the zone, but I’ve had lights stolen from where they were attached to the frame before. And sometimes I’ll attach the lock to a peripheral part when I’m in a store or restaurant for something quick. I will try harder to put the lock around something harder to detach from now on.
Jay, not an option with this bike rack, unless thieves have a jackhammer to get it out of the concrete .
Bukko, that’s one reason why I have a cable lock. I can get it thru the diamond of the frame as well as thru the front wheel. A cable lock isn’t as tough as a U-lock, but if in a reasonably secure area you should be okay.
Jerry, unlikely. 99% chance that bike got stolen, the thieves have gotten brazen since San Jose fired 1/3rd of their police department and quit even taking reports on bike thefts.

God is sending a message with tornados? What, His hands are too fat and chubby to Tweet like everybody else?! #IdiotChristopaths/Twitter 21 hours ago
Is that a $50 lock for a $25 wheel?

When I was in college, there were stories of thieves loading the bike racks into a van, bikes and all.
