In April 2012, the CDC warned the state of Florida that they were in the midst of the worst TB epidemic in the past twenty years, and urged vigorous action to contain and eliminate it.
The response of Florida’s state government? Cover up the epidemic and close the state’s only TB hospital. Because gubmint is teh eebil and the Free Market Fairy (left) will take care of treating TB in Florida. By, apparently sticking his (her?) magic wand up the bunghole of TB sufferers and filling them with free market fairy dust. Or somethin’.
I’d mention the one mutation for virulence that is between us and an incurable killer TB epidemic that will kill a quarter of the world’s population quickly and most of the rest slowly (including the same Republicans smugly cutting funds for treating TB), a mutation that becomes far more likely with a cesspool of untreated or, worse yet, badly-treated TB like we have today, but it’s kind of depressing to see how close I’m calling this one.

Suddenly Georgia seems waaaay too close to Florida. Wish the state could just pick up it’s skirts and tiptoe a bit farther north (not that we would be welcome in the new neighborhood).
Didn’t the US used to be the country that ‘fought disease’ worldwide? I have memories of pictures of ‘peace core’ types inoculating kids in Africa. Now we are too fucked up to deal with TB here in the States? “Land of the Free Home of the Brave” ? I don’t think so anymore. I was raised differently than this! And I am proud of it.

I’m with you Henry. The ” screw you I’m keeping mine crowd” is going to learn that their ” having it ” is worth nothing when the world comes crashing down around them. Sorry to say, but maybe that’s what it will take to wise up the ample supply of Dumb asses in this country
