Earth-Bound Misfit called them out, all those tighty righties hyperventilating about “2nd amendment solutions” to the Supreme Court upholding a tax passed by Congress and signed by the President. At which point EBM says, “Get a grip, elect your own guys and repeal it if you don’t like it.” And of course they then all showed up at her web site to sputter “but… but… tyranny!” Yes, you heard me. The right wing believes democracy is… tyranny?
But of course that’s nothing new. That’s been the right wing’s response to every advance they didn’t like that was voted in by the majority, whether we’re talking about civil rights or Medicare. The fact that 75% of Americans want universal healthcare, the fact that this health care plan was surveyed to death over and over again and every single survey shows that a supermajority of Americans (over 2/3rds) supports every piece of it other than the mandate (which alas is necessary to pay for it since there is unfortunately no free lunch) doesn’t matter to these right-wing cranks, they simply whine about the “tyranny of the majority” at that point. Which makes clear their true colors: They are, at heart, wanna-be petty tyrants who want to impose their world view at gunpoint upon the majority while donning the cloak of Patrick Henry, a man who hated petty tyrants with a passion and who would have spit on these people if he’d ever met them.
The funny thing is that they are so delusional they don’t even recognize that hating democracy makes them outside the mainstream of America, indeed, makes them an enemy of America, because America is a nation which has traditionally had no tolerance for tyranny (at least domestically). They are utterly incapable of the meagre amount of self reflection needed to understand that imposing their minority viewpoint upon the majority at gunpoint is un-American and would be an act of tyranny.
So it goes. It isn’t as if they’ll ever get far with their exercise in imposing their minority views upon the majority at gunpoint. As I mentioned, America has long had little tolerance for petty tyrants of any sort, and that sort swiftly gets narced on and neutralized if they ever attempt to act upon their loud talk of armed insurrection against the will of the majority.

It’s a blast to joust with a wingnut who sticks around for a fight. I was so excited when I read that first reply and realized he was genuine. And even more excited when he got reinforced! Hopefully this will continue on for a while.
I used to visit a conservative site to throw some reason and truth around, but the guy eventually gave up the blog because of the ‘vitriol.’ Too bad. I had some fun arguments over there.
I can’t seem to find another good one, where they try to argue with reason. It’s easy as hell to find a wingnut site, of course, but they are so choked with hate and lies, and always discussing ‘events’ and ‘bills’ and ‘scandals’ I never heard about, that I don’t ever know where to start.
I’m currently having some fun over at Moonbattery. In the “largest tax increase everrrrr…” thread.
Thanks for the link (and the reinforcement). I’d call them the Insane Clown Posse, except that would be insulting both to insane clowns and that group of musicians.
